Welcome to Claremont

A charming college town community that has been planting its roots (and its trees), since 1907; Claremont is a unique city tucked comfortably in the Foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Abundant with a variety of trees, including mature oaks and towering elms, which line some of city’s most beautiful streets, Claremont takes pride in its tree lined streets and numerous community parks. Aside from trees, Claremont is renowned for its seven higher-education institutions known collectively as The Claremont Colleges, of which their prestige continues to draw students from across the country and around the world. Due to its large number of tress and residents with doctorates, it is appropriatly known as “the City of Trees and PhDs.”

The city is primarily residential, with commercial activity revolving mostly around The Village in Claremont; a popular Claremont “hot spot” consisting of street-front stores, boutiques, art galleries, offices, banks, coffee shops, and restaurants westerly adjacent to the Claremont Colleges. The buzz around the Village is even livelier with the 2007 completion of the Village Expansion. The new development added a Laemmle Theatre, a museum of art, a boutique hotel, retail stores, restaurants and coffee shops, offices, and a parking structure.

Claremont is also celebrated for its top notch schools at all levels. Several of the colleges and Claremont’s private Webb High School are consistently rated among the best in the nation. Claremont High School has also been credited as a National Blue Ribbon and a California Distinguished School.

While much of the city’s residential neighborhoods are deeply rooted and pre-1990’s, the city gained a newer residential development in the early 2,000’s nestled just at the foothills, offering breathtaking mountain and hillside views, large yards, and homes ranging from 3,800-5,600 square feet. Their creation resulted in a 1,740 acre wilderness park, complete with picturesque hiking/biking trails, running streams, stunning views, wildlife and nature’s surroundings.

The foothills are also home to the historic Padua Hills Theatre. Constructed in the 1920’s, this beautifully maintained building and grounds are a popular location for many weddings and private parties.

Claremont is truly a one of a kind city, with undeniable character, charm and sense of community.
