Village General

The Village

Tucked in the heart of Claremont, lies the charming and robust neighborhood and commercial haven known as The Village. Commonly accepted as the area south of Foothill, East of Mountain Avenue, and as far south as the train tracks, The Village is Claremont’s most frequented destination for tourists and locals alike. Our Downtown Village is comprised of fantastic restaurants, unique boutiques, salons, shops, a boutique movie theater, and so much more. It is also the home to City Hall, the Claremont Post Office, the Claremont Library, and the Metrolink Station. The streets are abundant with trees, and seemingly more often than not, live music can be heard at various times in the day.

It is no wonder then, that the surrounding residential neighborhood, is the most sought after neighborhood in Claremont real estate. Homes here are all unique, with the majority having been built between the early 1900’s – 1940’s. In the early 2,000’s, the Village took on an expansion just west of the Old Downtown. In this expansion, a development of lofts and townhomes were built, and named Village Walk. These modern spaces quickly became the new “trendy” place to live, with convenient “walk-ability” to all the new restaurants, shops, and theater that came along with the expansion.

Wilderness Park

The Claremont Wilderness Park (The Loop)

This is a 1,740 acre wilderness preserve located at the very northernmost location in Claremont. Within this beautiful preserve is a five mile long trail that winds its way up, down, and around through the park amid the trees, streams, natural hillside landscape, families of deer and other critters that make an appearance from time to time. At the half way point, you reach the peak of the trail, which provide stunning views of the entire city and far beyond. This five mile “loop” is known by locals and frequenters of the trail, simply as “The Loop”, and has become an amazingly popular weekend hot spot.

Garden

Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden

Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (RSABG) is the largest botanic garden dedicated to California native plants, and it is located right here in Claremont! It spreads across 86 acres, and displays about 2,000 taxa of California plants and includes those native to the California Floristic Province as a whole. Docents lead tours of the Garden periodically. Guidebooks and brochures are available at the California Garden Shop. Click here for more information.

Museum

Claremont Lewis Museum of Art

The Claremont Lewis Museum of Art celebrates the community’s rich artistic legacy and promotes the cultural vitality of the region. With high hopes, the museum was incorporated in 2004 and was located in the Packing House for two years.

From 2010 to 2016, the museum successfully operated as a “museum without walls.” With nearly 300 members, the volunteer organization continued to hold numerous events and programs. CMA presented ten exhibitions in borrowed spaces. The Padua Hills Art Fiesta became a popular annual event and studio tours opened dozens of artists’ studios to the public. Funds raised have supported Project ARTstART, an art education program now in its seveth year serving Claremont schools.

In December 2015, the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art entered into a lease agreement with the City of Claremont for the adaptive reuse of the Claremont Depot as a small art museum. Thanks to generous and enthusiastic community support, the museum raised over $150,000 and completed Phase I of the renovation. The museum opened its new gallery space at the Depot on November 20, 2016. Featuring the work of Claremont area artists, the gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday noon to 4:00 pm.
