A major producer of citrus at the time of incorporation in 1906, Upland started as a small rural town with an agricultural base. It is now a vibrant and diverse city with both old and new residential areas, a quaint historic downtown, as well as large commercial retailers. Upland is also home to one of 12 identical monuments across the country called Madonna of the Trail, sited on Foothill Boulevard at the base of the most well-known hiking trail along the center of Euclid Avenue.
